Statue honors Civil War general:

On June 27, Confederate Civil War Gen. Jo Shelby was finally honored with a life-sized statue of himself astride a horse. He has long been considered one of America’s greatest cavalrymen. Under different circumstances, he might have been the best in the world.

This Confederate from Missouri saw action from 1858 to 1865. After the Civil War he refused to surrender, instead going to Mexico. Gen. Shelby is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery in Kansas City on Confederate Hill. His funeral procession is still considered the largest attended in Kansas City history.

This is a beautiful statue in a beautiful park in historic Waverly, Mo. Please pay a visit soon.
